MPCF have just received this e-mail regarding what happens after Aiming High funding finishes next year. Hopefully you have all had a chance to experience the extra
activities that have been arranged during the last year.
It is important that we keep the pressure up
by e-mailing the local authority to
let them know there is no turning back despite tough times. We would suggest that you click on the link and send your comments. We as a group will also be sending
comments but sometimes the individual can make all the difference.

Blue Badge Awareness
The following has been brought to our attention:
With the summer holidays looming please ensure all your families who have
a Blue Badge are aware of the Rights and Responsibilities document updated in April 2010.
Blue Badge holders are not automatically given free parking in car parks. Some Devon car parks charge the same fee as other
drivers. 'It is up to the car park owner to decide whether badge holder can park free'.
[Furthermore] if you have visits to London hospitals again please check parking restrictions and charges. It can be very expensive.
[The] document is available to print off from here or booklets are
available from Department for Transport.

New Yahoo! Group
An online group has been set up for those of us in Medway and Kent home educating ASD/AS children to
exchange ideas, resource information, celebrate our successes and commiserate when things are a bit tough! It is hoped that the group can arrange some
trips and outings too as some of the more 'mainstream' home ed groups outings aren't always accessible to us for a multitude of reasons.
The group can be found here.

Treehouse - Snapshot of children’s autism services in the UK
Having worked with parent groups across the country, TreeHouse have been acutely aware of the stark differences in quality and choice of services that parents
in different parts of the UK can access for their children with autism. During 2009 Treehouse carried out a series of Freedom of Information requests to local
authorities across the UK to find out how big these variations in approaches to autism between local authorities are.
MAGIC have been heavily involved with this project, and more on this topic as well as some reactions can be found on the Treehouse
"talkaboutautism" forums here.
1 in 100 children in the UK has autism. Children with autism grow up to become adults with autism.
A thought-provoking new display exploring life through the eyes of children with autism opens at the V&A Museum of Childhood on 20 March.
The display shows how the senses of sight and hearing can impact on the daily lives of children with autism. For some visual recognition can be fragmented,
meaningless and frightening. Vibration and noise can be overwhelming.
It also explains the difficulties children with autism face in learning how to socialise, because social clues and ‘rules’, such as facial expressions showing
emotion, are hard for them to understand and respond to.
This display has been organised in collaboration with The National Autistic Society and is linked to World Autism Awareness Day on 2nd April.
More on this fascinating exhibition can be
found here.

Fledglings is a national charity which aims to assist parents and carers of disabled children, or those

Some of you may have signed a petition asking the Prime Minister to "recognise the vital support that Attendance Allowance (AA) and Disability Living Allowance
(DLA) provide to disabled people, and to ensure that these benefits are secured and are not removed as part of any future reform of the social care system in England."
As a result of this petition, The Prime Minister's Office has responded to that petition and that response can be viewed here.
Information on the original petition can be found here.
For a child with ASD, the move from primary to secondary school can be a very difficult change. A new research grant from the Great Ormond
Street Hospital Children’s Charity is helping us to develop support packages to help to make the process easier.
More information can be found here.
